Wed:
Lunch - Tomato
Dinner - Chicken Vegetable

Thur:
Lunch and Dinner - Cooks Choice (sounds interesting...I'm on the edge of my seat waiting to find out what they are)

Fri:
Lunch - New England Clam Chowder
Dinner - Manhattan Clam Chowder
this will provide us with a great opportunity to really dive into the debate between the milk based NECC and tomato based MCC

Sat:
Lunch - Minestrone
Dinner - Split Pea

Sun:
Lunch - Vegetarian Vegetable (a bit redundant perhaps? We will soon find out.)
Dinner - Beef with Rice (always a fave)

This post is for all the visitors out there who would like to review soups at SLU or their own school. After a great guest review from Cornell (thread: 10/26 tomato macoroni beef), we'd like to hear some more opinions. Leave 'em here.

10/26 Pub soup - Macaroni Tomato Beef

With such a long name, I wasn't sure what to expect. Upon lifting up the lid, I knew I had to try it. I lowered the ladle into the depths of the soup bucket and scooped a hearty halfcup filling of said ingrediants (macaroni, tomato, beef). Not mentioned in the name of the soup are the copious amounts of carrot and onion, nice additions to an already stacked list of ingredients. As I looked into my cup, it was like looking at an allstar team of soup ingredients. For my second scoop, I focused more on getting the actual soup-base, since my first scoop had more content.

As I sat down with Bob and Jamie, I started to feel a burning senstation running up and down my groin area; I was genuinly excited, and somewhat aroused to be in the presense of such a good looking soup. The first bite was disappointing to say the least. Jamie immediatly said, "That is a look of disappointment." I tried to argue that it wasn't, but the cognitive dissonance was blatant. I was trying to tell myself I enjoyed the soup, when in reality, it was nothing more than mediocre. The "whos who" of soup ingredients saved this soup. Without them, I would have been max disappointed. The base lacked spice and creativity.

Overall, I would suggest this soup to the novice to intermediate soup advocate, but would discourage the expert afficionado. Instead, maybe try a house salad, or even caesar salad.

The soup of the week for the week of October 24th is Corn Chowder as recommended by The Jay. Although never seen at St. Lawrence, this soup is hearty, tasty and filling. Fresh corn and potato is essential and the result can be a meal in itself!

The soup of the week, as picked by Bob Golver is Chicken with Rice. Although a classic soup and a favorite to many, Chicken and Rice at Dana Dining Center could use a little work. To start, the soup is way too thin (for those who are not familiar with soup lingo, "thin" refers to watered down and not a lot of solid contents). Even a skilled ladlers can have trouble obtaining the contents from this one. Despite the poor liquid content to solid content ratio and the artificially tasting broth, I must say that the soup was quite enjoyable. It falls somewhere in the middle of the pack of soups at St. Lawrence, maybe just ahead of Beef Noodle Ole.
